I wanted to provide an update regarding drug dealing / drug use, which some members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey. Officers from the Integrated Enforcement Team, Plumstead & Glyndon, Plumstead Common & Shooters Hill Safer Neighbourhood Teams have been conducting proactive patrols around PLUMSTEAD where there has been an increase in drug activity. Although this operation has been conducted over 2 days, this has been successful resulting in 4 arrests, 4 charges and 4 remands in custody.
On Monday 19th January officers stopped a Male on The Ridgeway who was shown wanted by police for failing to appear at court for Theft offences. This male was arrested and remanded in custody. A second male was arrested after being found in possession of Class A Drugs. This male was also arrested, charged and remanded in custody.
On WEDNESDAY 21ST JANUARY PC THIND and PC BANKS along with PC DALLAS-LANE and PC NETO were patrolling around BOSTAL WOODS SE2. They noticed a male believed to be there to buy drugs walking up into the woods. PC DALLAS-LANE and PC NETO walked in the direction of this male and PC THIND and PC BANKS to prevent all escape routes. Officers stopped this male and was found in possession of Class A drugs on his person, as well as a bank card not in his name. This male was subsequently arrested. Officers then stopped a second male who was found in possession of a large quantity of drugs, confirmed Crack Cocaine and Heroin. This was was arrested for Possession with Intent to Supply Class A drugs.
PS Heal authorised the charge and remand for the male arrested for possession of Class A Drugs. In relation to the Possession with Intent to Supply Class A drugs arrest, PC THIND and PC BANKS referred the matter to PS Cooley who referred the case file to the CPS for a charging decision. The CPS came back within 30 mins without a telephone conversation with a decision to charge and remand within 9 hours from arrest, the charges were for possession with intent to supply CLASS A drugs x 2 crack cocaine and heroin.
This is an outstanding piece of collaborative police work, listening to residents concerns and conducting intelligence led patrols. A dangerous drugs dealer has been removed from the streets and in response to residents’ complaints. The male appeared at CROYDON magistrates court the following day where he has been remanded into custody awaiting crown court trial.
